Hello, my name is Dmytro, call sign VAMPIR.
The war for me began in 2014, I joined the army as a volunteer after the Ilovaisk Cauldron/battle because my friends were killed there. In 2014-2015, I served and performed combat missions as a machine gunner with the 28th Mechanised Brigade.
Then I returned to civilian life. I got married and had two sons.
With the full-scale invasion, I returned to the army and was assigned to the 115th Mechanised Brigade as a sniper.

While performing a combat mission in Severodonetsk, on 11 May 2022, I got under artillery fire, where I received a serious injury - the right leg was severed at the level of the hip joint. My leg was finally amputated in Druzhkivka.
Next - I was in the city of Dnipro. In the hospital intensive care unit. Then - evacuation to Lviv. Again, hospital, intensive care. Numerous operations, further complications. After all this - rehabilitation at the Halychyna Centre. Daily sessions with rehabilitation therapists and a psychologist.
People ask me how I felt when I found out that my leg had to be amputated. I didn't have many emotions because I was in a serious condition. After the amputation, I was in a lot of pain, so I couldn't think much about it.
Later, when I started to recover, my only desire was to get back in action as soon as possible, so there were no depressions. I didn't even have time for them. Perhaps because I had naive ideas, it seemed to me that I would be able to get back into the action.
It motivated me to move forward.
Depression started about 7 months later, when I started to get up and move a little. I realised for myself that with my amputation I would not be able to return to the army to perform combat missions.

I started working with a psychologist and psychiatrist. I took antidepressants and sedatives. But personally for me, it did not help. I don't consider myself weak, so I realised that I needed time and everything would be fine.
Now, for everyday life, I need a prosthesis, for which the state programme does not allocate enough funds.

I am making plans for the future: to work and raise my sons.
But I am clearly aware that there is a war to be won, and, unfortunately, society is beginning to move away from helping the army. And this is disconcerting.
Victory is only possible if we all unite and support the army.

The funds raised for Dmytro were a tremendous source of support both human and financial. But life sometimes brings pleasant surprises. Dmytro received a prosthesis abroad and no longer needs assistance from us.
We contacted Dmytro, and he fully supported the decision to redirect the collected funds to help other soldiers who urgently need support right now.
Therefore, these funds were transferred toward the treatment of:
We are sincerely grateful to everyone who contributed to the fundraiser through donations, sharing the story, or kind words. This decision is also an act of trust, generosity, and humanity. And it has already become support for others.
Thank you for believing. We move forward together.
