I am Oleksandr Karpus, born on 22.03.1978. In 2014, I first found myself in the frontlines as I got mobilised during the times of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (in the East of Ukraine).
My call sign was GENERAL. From 2014 to 2015, I served in the 25th separate airborne brigade.
After the outbreak of a full-scale war against Ukraine, I was mobilised again on 25th February 2022 to the 36th Brigade and sent to the Donetsk region, Volnovakha district where I was serving with the 53rd Brigade.
I was wounded near Vuhledar, in the village of Pavlivka, by an enemy tank fire.
Me and two other fellow soldiers were evacuated from the position, but on the way to Kurakhove, one of my comrades unfortunately died, and the two of us were left with disabilities.

In Kurakhove I got the medical aid that was necessary, my state was stabilized and they transported me to Dnipro. Then there was Vinnytsia (3 months), where I underwent 20 operations. After that, I was sent to Gera, Germany, for treatment. I was being treated there for 5 months and underwent 5 operations.
During my treatment in Germany, I received the news that my son, who also fought, died on 15th July 2022.
I returned to Ukraine and had a month of rehabilitation in Truskavets. The military qualification commission declared me partially fit, after which I was demobilised and removed from the military register. The MSEC (Medical and social expert commission) assigned me a 2nd group of disability for life.

Now my right arm is 5 cm shorter and my right leg is 7cm shorter. I can only move around with crutches. The only thing that can help me walk without crutches is E-mag Aktive functional orthoses. Unfortunately, the funds allocated by the state are not enough to purchase two orthoses. So I had to turn to the Citizen Charitable Foundation for help.
Despite these circumstances, I want to lead a normal life and walk on my own legs without crutches.
