My name is Vadym Zaporozhets, call sign TYKHYI. I was born and raised in the small village of Davydivka in the Kirovohrad region. Before the war, I worked in forestry in the town of Holovanivsk. I loved nature, lived a peaceful life, and had my own plans for the future. But everything changed on June 1, 2022, when I was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

At first, I trained as a gunner, but my technical skills quickly found a purpose. I repaired and maintained military equipment, which became my primary task. We worked in the hottest spots, under constant shelling, often pushed to our limits. But I knew why I was doing it and was ready for any challenge.
However, on September 7, 2022, in the village of Pisky, Donetsk region, I sustained an injury that changed my life forever. The day started as usual—shelling, noise. We were preparing for a combat mission when the enemy attacked with a drone. The first explosion landed near us, and immediately after, there was a second one.
I was knocked off my feet, with my legs buried under the earth. I didn’t feel pain, just an inability to move. When I saw blood on my shoulder, I realized it was serious. Only one thought crossed my mind: “This is the end.” I even mentally said goodbye to my mom, sister, my girlfriend, and my nephews… But my comrades, Yurii, call sign “Brodyaha,” and Vasyl Voloshyn, pulled me out from under the rubble. Everything after that is a blur. I only remember being carried somewhere.
I was transported through several hospitals: Pokrovsk, Dnipro, and Kyiv. In Kyiv, at Feofania Hospital, I began regaining consciousness. Doctors fought for my life, and my family was always by my side, praying for me to survive. I faintly remember seeing my mom and girlfriend by my bedside.
Realizing that my legs no longer worked was a tremendous shock.

I can’t say what was the hardest part. Perhaps the most challenging was accepting reality. But thoughts of my family kept me going. I wanted to see my mom, my sister, my little daughter, and my nephews again. They became my inspiration and my main motivation to keep fighting.
Today, I am undergoing treatment and rehabilitation at the Modrychi Medical Center in the Lviv region. Here, the doctors have stabilized my condition, helped me stand upright again, and I’ve gained back some weight. But the road ahead is still long and difficult.

Rehabilitation at the center is my chance, but it is very expensive. Therefore, I have to turn to benefactors for help.
I want to return to an active life and my favorite work. I dream of having my own family, being useful to others, and living a full life.

Vadym continues his fight for a life without pain and a return to full recovery. Thanks to the support of caring people, he is already undergoing rehabilitation at the "Modrychi" center, but it is not enough.
Doctors recommend an additional fourth month of intensive rehabilitation to consolidate the results and give him a better chance at recovery. Additionally, to reduce spasticity in his legs, Vadym needs a botulinum toxin injection. This procedure will help relieve severe muscle tension and make movement easier.

Thanks to all those who care, Vadym has completed two months of intensive rehabilitation at the “Modrychi” center. In addition, the foundation covered the cost of botulinum therapy, which helped reduce spasticity in his legs and improve his condition.
At Vadym’s own decision, he will continue his rehabilitation at the “Svyatenko” center. We will continue to monitor his recovery and provide support if needed.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated, shared information, and supported Vadym on this challenging journey. Every contribution, every word of encouragement is his chance for a new life.
