Soldier Anton Telenchak, call sign PEACEMAKER

My husband, Anton Telenchak, was born on June 12, 1992. His call sign is PEACEMAKER.
After graduating from the Marine School, he decided to dedicate his life to military service. In 2013, after completing his conscription, he signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. From 2014 to 2017, he participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO), for which he received awards.

After completing his contract in 2017, Anton left the military service and decided to focus on what had always brought him joy—raising rabbits, pheasants, and other animals. He also had a passion for singing and playing the guitar, which brought him great satisfaction during breaks from his work and caring for the farm.

However, on February 24, 2022, the full-scale war began. The next day, February 25, Anton, without hesitation, packed his things and voluntarily went to the military commissariat to defend our country and loved ones. Fate once again brought him to the Donetsk region, where he served in military unit A0536, a separate mechanized brigade, as a senior sergeant.

During combat near the village of Volodymyrivka, Donetsk region, on May 15, 2022, Anton was severely injured: a mine-explosion shrapnel wound to the left parietal and temporal lobes of his head. He was in a coma for nearly three months, and when he came out of it, we had to learn everything from scratch—drinking, eating, holding a spoon, sitting, walking, and speaking.

For two years and three months now, my husband and I have been on this difficult journey of treatment and rehabilitation. No matter how hard it gets, we are not giving up. In this battle, Anton must win, so he can return to a full life.

There has been noticeable progress. Anton is starting to speak, confidently answering "yes" or "no" questions. He repeats many words, though his speech is still not completely clear. He is slowly walking on his own, but due to the high risk of falling, I always stay by his side.

Doctors are giving positive forecasts and say the most important thing is to keep going and continue the recovery process. Anton still has a lot of work ahead. He now needs rehabilitation at the Western Rehabilitation and Sports Center.

In October, the next stage of rehabilitation for Anton Telenchak was completed, once again proving his incredible strength of spirit and determination in the fight for his recovery. Thanks to the consistent work of specialists from the “Western Rehabilitation and Sports Center” of NCSIU and Anton’s dedication, noticeable progress has been achieved.

There has been improvement in walking metrics: speed and endurance have increased, and the risk of falling has decreased but still remains high, so Anton requires assistance while walking.

After the rehabilitation course, Anton became more communicative and interested in social interaction, though his speech is still absent. There is some facial expression activity, and he has begun to reproduce individual sounds, although he is not yet able to say his name.

Despite all of this, his cognitive functions remain almost intact, which gives hope for further recovery steps. However, there is still a need for continued neuropsychological correction.

Anton faces new challenges ahead, but each step forward is another victory over adversity. We will continue to provide all necessary support for his ongoing recovery.

Anton is a person who bravely fights for his health and independence after a severe injury. His story is one of continuous self-improvement. For a long time, he underwent rehabilitation in various medical institutions, but it was the course at the “Western Rehabilitation and Sports Center” of the National Committee for Sports of the Disabled of Ukraine (NCSIU) in the fall of 2024 that became a true breakthrough. Thanks to the support of the “Citizen” Foundation, Anton was able to significantly improve his condition, regain his walking skills, strengthen his muscles, and even reduce the risk of falls.

However, after returning home without proper rehabilitation, Anton’s condition began to deteriorate again. This once again proved how crucial professional support is for maintaining his activity, mobility, and easing daily life both for him and his wife, who has been his constant source of support.

Anton turned to the Foundation again to undergo an additional rehabilitation course, which allowed him to:

  • restore and improve his walking skills;
  • enhance balance and reduce the risk of falls;
  • strengthen muscles, increase endurance, and improve mobility speed.

These achievements have made Anton more independent in his movements and significantly simplified his daily life.
