Soldier Yurii Parkhomenko, call sign REVO

I was mobilised in November 2022. I joined the ranks of the 14th separate mechanised brigade named in honour of Prince Roman the Great. I did not refuse to serve, because I clearly understand that it is necessary to protect my family and our motherland Ukraine.

In the first days of my military service, I was trained at a training range, after which our unit was sent to the Kupiansk direction. And it was there that, while performing a combat mission on 22.05.2023, I happened to be under artillery fire and was wounded in the thoracic area of the spine, which caused paralysis of 75% of my body. Thank God, my comrades Pavuk and Shum were with me and pulled me out of that hell.

They evacuated me to Kupiansk. I was almost unconscious. There they provided first aid. Then I was transferred to a hospital in Kharkiv. I don't really remember how I came to my senses. Already in the intensive care unit, the doctors diagnosed me with a spinal cord injury, T1 T2 spinal cord contusion, functional damage to the T2 T3 spinal cord segments.

The first thing I thought about was: "How will the guys manage without me? How am I going to manage without them?"

The treatment lasted for 6 months. Now I move around in a wheelchair. The doctors give me hope that I will get back on my feet again. My wounds have already healed. Now I have to undergo long-term rehabilitation, and am left with hope for and faith in myself. I dream of returning to my unit again.

Now I need rehabilitation at the Zakhidnyi Rehabilitation and Sports Centre of the National Committee for Sports for the Disabled People of Ukraine.
