Charity screening of the documentary film Hamlet, directed by Jan Bedegeonods: from collective drawing for Hamlet to a charity bake sale

On April 25 and 28, the Dutch city of Middelburg hosted a charity screening of the documentary film Hamlet, directed by Jan Bedegeonods. The film tells the story of the life and work of Kharkiv-based street artist Hamlet Zinkivskyi during russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It became a kind of visual journey through the wartime reality that artists and soldiers face every day.

The event took place at Cinema Middelburg and gathered engaged viewers who not only attended the screening but also actively participated in post-screening initiatives: from collective drawing for Hamlet to a charity bake sale.

The atmosphere was filled with support, solidarity, and art that brings people together. The screening of Hamlet in Middelburg was a powerful gesture of unity with Ukraine that left no one indifferent.

All funds raised (€780) from ticket sales and the bake sale were donated to support severely wounded Ukrainian soldiers through the “Citizen” Charitable Foundation.

On behalf of the foundation team, we sincerely thank the event’s initiator and organizer Yurii Baranenko, whose efforts made this event possible, as well as Hamlet himself — for his inspiring art and remarkable resilience.

Special thanks go to Simon Blaas, director of Cinema Middelburg, for his hospitality and support.

Events like this are truly inspiring and prove that even thousands of kilometers away, real good can be done.
