Soldier Oleksii, call sign SERG

I was mobilised in April 2022 and served in the air defence forces. Without a second thought, I went to defend my homeland, I could not imagine any other option when trouble struck my country.

I was wounded on 10.06.23. I have a spinal cord injury.

I underwent surgery in Dnipro at Mechnikov Hospital. They fitted a device on my spine. From the beginning, when I came to my senses, I was in shock, anger and disbelief. Then non-acceptance followed. I kept hearing in my head: "This was not supposed to happen to me".

I gradually accepted and acknowledged it. According to doctors' forecasts, I can count on a positive outcome. Long-term and hard work on rehabilitation is required. Now there is partial sensation below the thoracic region, but unfortunately, no controlled movements have appeared yet.

My plans for the future are to recover and get back on my feet at least partially. To go in for sports and lead an active lifestyle. If possible, to play sports professionally. I dream of mastering graphic design.

I am currently in need of rehabilitation at the Zakhidnyi Rehabilitation and Sports Centre of the National Committee for Sports for the Disabled People of Ukraine.
 

COLLECTED AND TRANSFERRED: UAH 90,000

 

I have completed the 30-days rehabilitation course through the Citizen charity fund help.      In course of this rehabilitation I have achieved a lot, I mastered the wheelchair, and now I am able to raise myself from the floor and sit myself in it, going over obstacles and managing it in any complex terrain.  

I feel my limbs and body better now, and I restored my sense of equilibrium.  I also feel myself stronger and better physically fit.

Thanks to the support of the Citizen Charitable Foundation, I have completed the 2nd stage of physical rehabilitation at the Western Rehabilitation and Sports Centre of the National Committee for Sports for the Disabled of Ukraine. 

I am returning home soon. 

I move exclusively in an active wheelchair, my legs do not work. 

The Citizen Foundation helped me to purchase a wheelchair with sanitary equipment Ridni Care KJT707C, which contributes to a comfortable life and is designed for sedentary patients.

The cost of the 2nd stage of rehabilitation is UAH 90,000.
The cost of the chair is 6 750 UAH
