Soldier Dmytro Iatsyshyn

I had been mobilised for the first time and joined the military in 2015.
During the full-scale invasion, I could not stand aside and was already at the military registration and enlistment office on the 25th of February 2022. I joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the second time to defend my homeland from the aggressor.

On the 26th of September, 2023, while performing a combat mission, we got under enemy fire and I received a mine-blast injury, spinal cord injury, neck and chest wounds. Thanks to my fellow "cossacks", I survived. The guys quickly and skilfully provided first aid and evacuated me from the battlefield to Lyman. I was conscious the whole time, I didn't panic nor felt fear, I was amazingly calm.

In Lyman, my condition was stabilised and I was sent to Vinnytsia, where I was treated and underwent the first 4 weeks of rehabilitation. Then in November, I was transferred to the Zakhidnyi Rehabilitation and Sports Centre of the National Committee for Sports for the Disabled People of Ukraine, which specialises in spinal injuries.

I hope to regain sensation in my hands and return to active life. I dream of playing a synthesiser and driving a harvester again. But to do this, I need to continue my rehabilitation and work daily with the specialists of the Zakhidnyi Rehabilitation and Sports Centre.
