Soldier Ivan, call sign VANO

Glory to Ukraine! My name is Ivan, call sign VANO.

When the enemy launched a full-scale invasion of our homeland, I had no doubt from the very first minutes why I had to go and defend my family, my home, my homeland... Firstly, I am a husband, a father, a citizen... Secondly, I am a soldier, and this is my duty and my job...

On 26.02.22, I was deployed as a machine gunner to perform combat missions in the Donetsk region to the city of Lyman as part of a combined unit.

At the end of April, in the village of Zelena Dolyna, during one of the combat missions, while changing the firing position in a bombed house, I fell and landed badly. I immediately felt severe pain in the gluteal area. And since then, this feeling has been there with me all the time.

At the beginning, the pain periodically eased and increased during physical exertion. At the time, I did not pay much attention to it, I continued to perform combat missions as per my position until the rotation of our unit, which took place in July. But over time, the pain did not even stop, but only increased, and the painkillers stopped working. Eventually, I went to see some doctors.

In October, I received a preliminary diagnosis in hospital:  Deforming bilateral coxarthrosis of the first degree, aseptic necrosis of the heads of both femurs, with significant dysfunction.

The specialists unanimously concluded: "Surgery is essential - total hip replacement of both hip joints. Unfortunately, there are no alternatives!"

I have two dreams! The first one is of our VICTORY! And the second is that - my son was born before the war, - and I dream of playing football with him. I constantly imagine us running after a ball together, teaching him to pass and score penalties. Thanks to the future operation, all this will be possible.

COLLECTED AND TRANSFERRED: UAH 115,000. Endoprosthetics on the left leg was performed

After a hip replacement surgery on my left leg in June 2023, I underwent rehabilitation and am ready for a right hip replacement.

Constant pain prevents me from moving freely and living a normal life. Postponing the surgery only aggravates the problem.

Doctors are ready to operate in November. The positive experience of replacing my left joint gives me hope for a full life without limitations and pain.
