Soldier Oleksandr Kolko

My name is Oleksandr Kolko. On 24th February 2022, almost like everyone else who could, I volunteered to defend our homeland. I was officially mobilised on 3rd March 2022. I am from Kharkiv region, so I was immediately assigned to the 92nd Mechanised Brigade, 2nd Battalion, 4th Company.

We started defending the well-known Saltivka (602nd micro district), and then - endless other places.

When I came back for rotation, my sister barely recognised me, saying that I had lost a lot of weight, and the expression of my eyes became one that cannot be forgotten. I remember her shock when she asked me what I needed, and I answered in a trite way: "A bag! Or a backpack. Because I've already lost three in fire! Everything is burning there from where we are driving the russian monsters away... the ground, the trees, or clothes on people..."

On 10th September 2022, near the village of Kindrashivka, Kupiansk district, a UAV "kamikaze drone" hit the armoured personnel carrier (APC) with me in it. As a result: "... injury sustained is related to the performance of military service duties, to the defence of the Motherland during the counteraction to the armed aggression of the russian federation against Ukraine in the combat zone," the documents say.

In short, my right limbs were torn off: both my arm and leg. They were ripped off while I was fully conscious.

I was immediately taken to Balakliia military hospital, then to Kharkiv military hospital. Then Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Lviv. I underwent a lot of surgeries.

Now I am in Pustomyty, Lviv region.

I need an electric wheelchair because soon I will return home, where I will be one-on-one with my fate. The wheelchair will help me to move freely on my own, to be mobile.

COLLECTED AND TRANSFERRED: UAH 76,502

We would like to thank our partner Europa GrenzLos eV (Germany) for the financial support of the Cyborg’s program.
