Hennadii Horobets, call sign MAIOR Copied!

I am a soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

On March 14, 2022, I was mobilized into the military. After training and working up, I was assigned to an engineering support regiment in the position of a pontoon engineer. In September 2022 our unit participated in the liberation of Balakliia, and subsequently worked near Sviatohirsk in Donetsk Oblast. We set up and maintained pontoon crossings — doing what was necessary so that the military could continue to move forward.

In 2025 my unit was constructing fortification structures on the line of contact near Chasiv Yar. On March 4, 2025, during a raid by an enemy FPV drone, I felt something crack in my leg. We withdrew to the evacuation point, after which I was taken to the medical unit in Druzhkivka.

Over the years of service in the engineering forces, I developed arthrosis of the large joints. For a long time the pain was simply managed with painkillers, without the necessary examinations. Only in September 2025 was I diagnosed with a torn meniscus of the right knee and operated on in Vinnytsia. And already in November I was transferred to the Donetsk direction, where I continue to serve to this day.

In June of this year I underwent an MRI of the knee and, on the recommendation of the Vinnytsia traumatologists, was put on the waiting list for endoprosthetic replacement of the right knee joint. I had already begun preparing for the surgery and undergoing the necessary examinations, but it was at that point that the doctors discovered yet another serious problem — with the hip joint. Their conclusion was unambiguous: the only thing that can help is its replacement.

Now I first need to undergo endoprosthetic replacement of the hip joint, recover after the surgery, and only then will the doctors be able to operate on the right knee. The surgery itself is free of charge for me, but a high-quality hip joint endoprosthesis needs to be purchased independently. I cannot pay for it on my own. That is why I am compelled to ask for help.

Before the great war I worked all my life as an engineer in construction. After my service I want to return to my profession. In Ukraine there is, and unfortunately there will still be, a great deal that needs to be rebuilt. And I want to be among the people who will do this. But for this I need to restore my health.

The fundraiser for Hennadii Horobets has been successfully closed! The necessary total cementless fixation hip joint endoprosthesis Medacta (Switzerland) has been purchased, and the surgery has already taken place. Now an important next stage awaits Hennadii — rehabilitation and recovery.
