Soldier Serhii Hrechukha, call sign KRUPYNKA

Before the full-scale invasion, I worked in Kyiv and lived an ordinary civilian life. On February 24, 2022, everything changed. I returned home to the Cherkasy region, helped build checkpoints, and joined the Territorial Defense. For some time, I combined work in the capital with duty shifts in the TDF, but I understood that the country needed people not only in the rear. So I made the decision to voluntarily mobilize.

In December 2022, I joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since February 2023, I served in the 117th Separate Mechanized Brigade as a driver-electrician in the second mortar battalion.

On September 6, 2023, near the village of Mala Tokmachka in the Zaporizhzhia region, while moving to a position, we came under artillery fire. My fellow soldiers provided first aid and called for evacuation. I remember them cutting off my clothes during evacuation… And then — darkness. I regained consciousness in the hospital.

According to official medical records, I sustained severe blast and multiple shrapnel injuries, fractures, and significant damage to my right thigh and hip joint. A long period of treatment began. There were many surgeries, dressings, and difficult decisions. I was treated in the department of bone and purulent surgery.

The doctors fought to save my leg.

The situation was complicated by an infection that prevented immediate joint replacement. It interfered with treatment and delayed recovery. The infection had to be overcome through long and persistent efforts. It was an exhausting path, but the doctors managed to stabilize my condition.

Due to the consequences of my injury, I was discharged from military service.

Now I can only move with crutches. I am not allowed to put any weight on my right leg. The joint is completely destroyed. The only chance to return to a normal life is total hip replacement.

The doctors are ready to perform the surgery free of charge. However, I need to purchase a high-quality hip joint implant. Its cost is unaffordable for my family. That is why I am forced to ask for help.

This surgery is my chance for a normal future.
A chance to work.
A chance to live without constant pain.
A chance to stand confidently on my own two feet again.
