Soldier Volodymyr Mezhetovych call sign NORD

I am a lieutenant in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the platoon commander of the 157th Separate Brigade, call sign Nord. I was mobilized into military service in June 2024. My decision to join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was deliberate — I went to defend my family, my children, and the future of Ukraine.

I took direct part in combat operations on the Donetsk front, in particular near Pokrovsk, in the area of the village of Tsukurine in Donetsk region. It was there, in October 2024, while carrying out a combat mission, that I sustained a severe wound to my arm as a result of a mortar strike. At the moment of injury, I was conscious and immediately understood that the trauma was extremely serious.

After evacuation, a long and exhausting period of treatment began for me. In total, I underwent seven surgical operations, including two abroad in Germany. The doctors did everything possible, but the consequences of the injury proved to be critical: my elbow joint is essentially non-functional, and constant pain and severe limitations in movement prevent me from living and serving normally.

According to the doctors’ conclusions, the only real chance to restore function to my arm is endoprosthetics of the elbow joint. The surgeons are ready to perform the operation free of charge, but for this it is necessary to purchase a high-quality elbow joint implant — the cost of which is beyond my means. I cannot cover such expenses on my own, which is why I am forced to turn to a charitable foundation and to caring people for help.

Ahead lies another complex operation and a long stage of recovery. My main goal is to regain control of my arm, to become independent in everyday life again, and to be a fully present father to my children. I sincerely want to continue being useful to my country and to society to the extent that my health allows.

The fundraiser for an elbow joint implant for severely wounded defender Volodymyr Mezhetovych, a lieutenant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the call sign NORD, has been successfully closed. The required amount has been raised in full.

At this time, the elbow joint replacement surgery is being postponed. Before that, doctors must perform a skin graft procedure for Volodymyr, and only after that will the joint replacement stage be possible. This sequence of treatment is necessary to ensure the surgery is carried out as safely and effectively as possible.

After the implant payment is finalized, we will обязательно add a financial report to Volodymyr’s story. Transparency and trust are important to us.

Volodymyr remains strong and is preparing for the next stage with faith in his recovery. There is still a rehabilitation journey ahead, but now he knows he is not alone.
