Soldier Dmytro, call sign STEL

My name is Dmytro, callsign STEL, and my military journey began in 2014 when I volunteered to defend my homeland in the ATO zone. From 2014 to 2017, I served under contract, completing combat missions to protect our country from the enemy.

On February 24, 2022, during the full-scale invasion, I once again voluntarily signed a contract, this time with the Territorial Defense Forces. After three months, I was transferred to the 5th Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where I continued to fight on the front lines.

On January 16, 2023, while on a combat mission in Bakhmut, I sustained a severe blast injury. Thanks to the composure of my comrades and a successful evacuation, I survived, but the injury led to the amputation of my leg.

In the months that followed, I went through a lengthy journey of treatment, prosthetic fitting, and rehabilitation. I learned to walk with a prosthesis and am gradually regaining my mobility, but this journey is still ongoing. My current prosthesis requires a liner replacement, without which it can’t be used. Unfortunately, government funds (31,566 UAH) don’t cover the full cost of the liner, and I need an additional 5,761.02 UAH to purchase it.

My plans for the future are clear and unchanged — to continue fighting for Ukraine and to defeat the enemy. Every day, I contribute to our shared victory.

My dream is to become even more mobile by obtaining a more functional prosthesis that will allow me to move faster and more effectively. I aim to restore my physical activity to a level as close as possible to what I had before my injury.

Thank you all! Thanks to your donations, Dmytro has already received a liner, uses a prosthesis and has returned to military service.
