Soldier Oleksandr Kovalenko, call sign DIRECTOR

I, Oleksandr Kovalenko, call sign DIRECTOR, voluntarily decided to defend our land in the first days of the full-scale invasion. Without any hesitation, I joined the territorial defense forces as part of the 126th Battalion of the 112th Brigade. Together with my comrades, we defended Kyiv, and for me, this was more than just fulfilling my duty—it was about protecting my home and my family.

After successfully defending the capital, we were sent to eastern Ukraine. There, in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, we continued fighting, joining the 81st Separate Airmobile Brigade. The battles near Bilohorivka were brutal and exhausting. Every day, we faced an enemy that outnumbered us, but we held our ground no matter what.

In early November 2022, during a combat mission, I sustained multiple concussions and a severe injury. After an examination, the doctors informed me of serious issues with my hip joint. This problem has severely limited my mobility, with every step accompanied by constant pain.

The doctors said that the only solution is total hip replacement surgery. The surgery will be performed for free, but I need to purchase a high-quality, expensive implant (manufactured by Medacta, Switzerland). Therefore, I am compelled to seek help from benefactors.

I understand that this is my only chance to live a full life again, without limitations and pain. My greatest dream is to be able to return to the front lines with my comrades after the surgery and rehabilitation—this is my duty.

It is a difficult journey, but I am ready to go through it in order to return to the fight and continue the struggle for our freedom. My faith in victory and my desire to be useful to my country give me the strength to move forward despite all the challenges.
