Soldier Serhii Makarenko, call sign KRAKEN

I have military experience since the Anti-Terrorist Operation, from 2015 to 2017 I served in the 300th Tank Regiment. From the first day of the full-scale invasion, I joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine and defended my native Chernihiv. Later, I was sent to Donbas.

On the 28th of March, 2024, while performing a combat mission, I was wounded near the industrial zone of Bilohorivka, Donetsk region. The command was given to leave the position, which was located at the very top of the terricone. I was the last to leave. We had to go down 500-700 metres from the mountain to the river crossing, where a boat was waiting for us to get to the other side of the Siverskyi Donets river.

All the time, a Mavic was following us, covering us with mortar fire. At one point, the orcs dropped an FPV directly into a dugout set up on the hilltop. The shockwave threw me back, I fell and started rolling down. I came to my senses under the mountain and thought I had broken my leg. I radioed that I was "cargo 300s" (meaning wounded).

The guys quickly evacuated me to the other side of the river, and from there they took me to a hospital in Kramatorsk in an armoured vehicle. After the examination, they refuted my opinion about the fracture, but made a more disappointing diagnosis - secondary left-sided coxarthrosis of the third degree, against the background of aseptic necrosis of the head of the left femur. At the time of the examination, the left limb was already 1.5 cm shorter than the right.

The only thing that can help in my case is total hip arthroplasty - replacement of the left hip joint. This is the only way I can get rid of the constant pain that prevents me from not only performing combat missions, but also from living a normal life. That's why I turned to the charitable foundation for help.

I dream about the operation and returning to service as soon as possible to defend my native Ukraine!
