REHABILITATION in the AGAPE Ukraine, NGO

The “Citizen” Charity Foundation has been cooperating with the NGO “AGAPE Ukraine” since 2023 within the framework of the “Cyborgs” project. The goal is the systemic rehabilitation of military personnel with severe injuries. This concerns veterans with traumatic brain injuries, spinal damage, and amputations. They lose basic skills and undergo lengthy recovery. Rehabilitation takes place at the NGO “AGAPE Ukraine” in Volyn Oblast under individual programs with a comprehensive approach.

During the course, veterans receive:

  • physical therapy,
  • occupational therapy,
  • speech and language sessions,
  • neuropsychological rehabilitation,
  • massage and manual techniques,
  • medical consultations and psychological support.

Each participant undergoes an intensive recovery course. Before it begins, a comprehensive assessment of their condition is conducted; upon completion, the results are recorded and an individual plan for further recovery is formed. A multidisciplinary team works with the veterans, which allows for simultaneous work on the physical, cognitive, and emotional consequences of injuries.

A separate area of focus is work with families. Because rehabilitation does not end after returning home. The progress directly depends on how daily life is organized and what support is available nearby.

That is why the veterans’ loved ones receive:

  • practical caregiving skills,
  • recommendations for home adaptation,
  • instructions for continuing exercises at home,
  • psychological support.

The full-scale war has only intensified the need for such programs. The number of people with severe injuries is growing, and recovery requires time, resources, and a professional approach. According to international recommendations, rehabilitation after complex injuries can last for years and must be continuous.

The cooperation between the “Citizen” Charity Foundation and the NGO “AGAPE Ukraine” makes it possible to ensure this continuity. The combination of experience, a professional team, and a systematic approach delivers results — gradual, but sustainable. This is about restoring movement, regaining control over one’s body, and developing new skills. About the moment when a person can once again do something independently and feel a sense of independence.
